GLOSSARY

What is Organic traffic?

DEFINITION

Organic traffic is the visitors who arrive from unpaid search results, as opposed to ads, email, social posts or typing your address directly. It usually means clicks on listings in Google or Bing, though analytics tools sometimes also group unpaid links from AI assistants or other sources differently.

It builds over time as pages earn visibility, and it does not stop when you stop paying for ads, but it is slower to grow and not guaranteed. Analytics and Search Console will report slightly different organic numbers because they measure at different points. Why it matters: It is the traffic that compounds over time, which is why it is the main yardstick for SEO progress.
