GLOSSARY

What is Impressions?

DEFINITION

In Search Console, an impression is counted each time a link to your site appears in a search result that a person could see, whether or not they click it. Impressions measure visibility, not visits.

They can rise because you rank for more queries, because search volume grew, or because you appear in lower positions that few people reach. A big gap between impressions and clicks is normal for pages ranking low, and it is a clue to improve the title or the ranking. Why it matters: Rising impressions are an early sign of growing visibility, often before clicks and enquiries follow.
