GLOSSARY

What is XML sitemap? (sitemap)

DEFINITION

An XML sitemap is a file that lists the pages you want search engines to crawl. It helps discovery but does not guarantee that pages are crawled or indexed.

Google says small sites of roughly 500 pages or fewer with thorough internal linking may not need one. Keep it limited to canonical, indexable, working URLs.
