GLOSSARY

What is Meta description?

DEFINITION

The meta description is a short summary of a page, written in the page's code and often shown beneath the title in search results. It does not directly influence ranking, but a clear, honest summary can persuade more people to click.

Google frequently shows its own text instead, pulled from the page, when it thinks that matches the search better, so you cannot fully control it. Write a distinct description for each page, describe what the visitor gets, and avoid copying the same line across the whole site. Why it matters: A better summary can lift how many searchers click your result without changing where you rank.
