GLOSSARY

What is messy middle?

DEFINITION

The messy middle is Google’s term for the stage between a trigger and a purchase, when people loop between exploring options and evaluating them. It is not a straight line.

The 2020 research with The Behavioural Architects used 310,000 simulated purchase scenarios and named six biases that influence choice, including social proof and scarcity.
