GLOSSARY

What is leading indicator?

DEFINITION

A leading indicator is a measure that moves before the result you care about and helps predict it, such as quote requests, calls or add-to-cart rate. It lets you spot problems while you can still fix them.

It contrasts with a lagging indicator such as revenue, which confirms what has already happened. Check leading indicators weekly and lagging ones monthly or quarterly.
