Generative engine optimization (GEO) is a name for optimizing content so generative AI systems include and cite it in their answers. The term was popularized by a 2023 academic paper and is used almost interchangeably with AEO.
In practice the groundwork is the same as AEO: clear, well-evidenced, extractable content on a site that machines can crawl and trust.
