GLOSSARY

What is Cache?

DEFINITION

A cache is a saved copy of something so it can be served faster next time. Your browser caches images and files, your WordPress caching plugin saves finished pages, and a CDN keeps copies near visitors.

Caching is a major reason sites are fast. The catch is that a cache can keep serving the old version after you make a change, so you may see outdated content until the saved copy is cleared or expires. Clearing the cache does not delete your content, it just forces a fresh copy to be built. Why it matters: Most reports of an edit not showing are a cache holding the old copy, and clearing it is the quickest first check.
