GLOSSARY

What is scannable text?

DEFINITION

Scannable text is written so a reader can grasp the main points by skimming: meaningful headings, short paragraphs with one idea each, and lists where they help.

In Nielsen Norman Group's 1997 study, a scannable version of a site scored 47% better on usability than a promotional control. It was a small study, so treat the figure as direction, not a forecast.
