GLOSSARY

What is redirect chain?

DEFINITION

A redirect chain happens when one address redirects to a second, which redirects to a third. Each extra hop slows the visitor and adds a point of failure.

Google’s site move documentation says to avoid chains and keep them ideally under three hops. After a migration, point every old address straight at its final destination.
