GLOSSARY

What is NAP?

DEFINITION

NAP stands for name, address and phone number, the core details that identify a local business. The idea is consistency: your business name, address and number should be written the same way on your website, your Google Business Profile, directories and social profiles.

Small differences, such as Street versus St or an old phone number on one site, make it harder for search engines to be sure these listings describe the same business. Consistency supports local visibility, but it is one factor among several, not a switch that guarantees ranking. Why it matters: Mixed-up details confuse both customers and search engines, and old numbers can send customers to the wrong place.
