GLOSSARY

What is mental availability?

DEFINITION

Mental availability is buyers’ ability to recall a brand when they shop in a category, and to recognise it quickly. The Ehrenberg-Bass Institute treats it as one of two drivers of brand growth.

It is built by linking the brand to many buying situations and by using distinctive cues consistently. It goes beyond awareness: being known is not the same as coming to mind at the right moment.
