GLOSSARY

What is Backlink?

DEFINITION

A backlink is a link from another website to yours. Search engines have long treated links as a sign that others consider a page worth referencing, so relevant links from trusted sites can help you rank.

Quality matters far more than quantity: one link from a respected site in your field is worth more than many from low-quality directories, and paid or manipulative link schemes can lead to penalties. Backlinks are earned by useful content, real relationships and genuine mentions, and they take time to accumulate. Why it matters: Links from credible sites support your rankings, while bought or spammy ones can harm them.
