STUCK ON THE COUNTER

Six notes every local owner has stuck up.

Reviews, hours and not enough time. Here is what owners tell us, and what we write underneath.

  • The apps own your regulars.

Half the orders come through a delivery app or a booking site. They keep the guest’s details, and you pay them again next time.

    OUR FIX

A direct ordering or booking path on your own site, a profile that points to it, and a guest list you are allowed to email.

    Web tools and SEO
  • Google says we are open when we are closed.

Holiday hours, a private event or the off-season, and the profile still says open. Guests show up to a locked door and leave a one-star review.

    OUR FIX

A profile kept current every week, with special hours, seasonal closures and separate profiles for the hotel and its restaurant.

    SEO
  • Our menu is a PDF nobody can read.

It looks fine on a laptop. On a phone it is tiny, a screen reader cannot read it, and Google shows an old version.

    OUR FIX

A text menu on your own site, with prices, dietary notes and any service charge, set as the menu Google shows.

    Website redesign
  • We are scared of the fee rules.

Service charges, resort fees, cleaning fees. The rules changed and every state seems different.

    OUR FIX

A price display checklist for your menus, room rates, ads and booking engine, reviewed with your counsel.

    Copywriting and conversion
  • The place down the street has twice the reviews.

Our food is better, but they have more stars and newer reviews, and that is what people see first.

    OUR FIX

A review routine that asks every guest the same way, follows Google, Yelp and FTC rules, and gets replies out within a week.

    SEO and growth
  • Nobody has time for marketing during service.

We post when we remember. A promotion goes out on a busy night and nothing on the quiet ones.

    OUR FIX

A named growth manager and a project manager, with a plan built around your slow nights and seasons.

A DAY OF “NEAR ME”

Four searches decide your day.

People choose a local business in the moment. Here are four moments from an ordinary day, and what your business has to show in each.

  1. 11:45 am

    “lunch near me, open now”

    THEY NEED TO SEE

Correct hours, a current menu on your own site, real photos and dine-in or takeout options on the profile.

    Business profile and SEO
  2. 4:30 pm

“quiet place for an anniversary dinner with a patio”

    THEY NEED TO SEE

Plain facts about seating, atmosphere, dietary options and accessibility, written the same way everywhere an assistant looks.

    AI search and copywriting
  3. 7:15 pm

“book a table, order pickup or check the room rate”

    THEY NEED TO SEE

A booking or order button that works on a phone, with every service charge or resort fee shown up front.

    Conversion and web tools
  4. The morning after

“is this place worth going back to”

    THEY NEED TO SEE

A fair way to ask every guest for a review, a reply from the owner, and a reason to book direct next time.

YOUR GROWTH MANAGER

Your business gets a growth manager who understands hospitality.

A growth manager is the person accountable for growing your business online. Yours is briefed on how restaurants, bars and small hotels win guests: profiles, menus, room pages, reviews and the rules around asking for them. They also know price display, drink promotions, accessibility and how AI assistants recommend places. They are your number one contact, alongside your project manager or specialist.

Your monthly checklist

  1. ProfileHours, menu, photos and booking links checked and kept right.
  2. ReviewsNew reviews, ratings and owner replies, reviewed every month.
  3. GuestsCovers, orders and room nights by channel, including apps and agencies.
  4. Next stepOne clear recommendation, and a monthly meeting.

ALREADY KNOWS

What your growth manager brings on day one

  • How guests pick a place to eat or stay from a map, a few stars and a menu
  • Why hours, special hours and seasonal closures matter so much on a profile
  • How the FTC fees rule changes the way hotels and inns show room rates
  • How state rules on restaurant service charges shape menus and ads
  • Why Google, Yelp and the FTC each set different limits on asking for reviews
  • Why a text menu and an accessible booking flow beat a PDF
  • How state liquor rules limit happy hour and drink promotions
  • Why cost per cover or room night matters more than clicks
  • Owns the plan

Decides what to do next, and in what order, so you can run the floor or the front desk.

  • Meets you every month

A monthly meeting to review covers, orders, room nights and reviews by channel, and agree the priorities.

  • Recommends, honestly

Clear advice, including when an app, an agency or an ad campaign costs more than it brings.

  • Brings in specialists

Recommends and coordinates our SEO, ads, website, copy and brand specialists when you need them.

The Growth Manager Advisor level gives direction and advice, not hands-on implementation. Many restaurants, bars and inns start there and add services when they are ready. Established groups can keep a growth manager on its own.

WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE

What to do, and what to stop doing.

The mistakes we see most on local businesses’ profiles and sites, and the fix for each. Platform and messaging rules vary, so check yours.

  • Link your Google menu to a delivery app.

Link it to a text menu on your own site.

  • Add a service charge or resort fee at the end.

Show it, and what it pays for, wherever a price appears.

  • Offer a free drink for a review.

Ask every guest the same way, offer nothing, and reply to every review.

  • Upload a scanned PDF menu and call it done.

Publish the menu as an accessible web page with prices.

  • Advertise a happy hour before checking the rules.

Clear every drink promotion with your state liquor rules first.

  • Text reservation guests your specials.

Collect a clear opt-in for marketing, and honor every STOP.

  • Count likes and clicks.

Count covers, orders and room nights by channel.

Questions local owners ask.

What does a growth manager actually do for a restaurant or small hotel?

Your growth manager owns the plan for growing your business online. Each month they review your profile, reviews, bookings, orders and room nights by channel, and recommend what to do next. They meet you monthly and bring in our specialists when you choose to buy the work. At the Advisor level they give direction and advice rather than doing the hands-on work. Many independents start there, and established groups can keep one on its own.

Do we have to buy every service?

No. Start with a growth manager, or with any single service, and add more when it makes sense. We would rather you buy the one thing that fits than a package you do not need. The free audit tells us where to begin.

How much does it cost?

It depends on which services fit your business, so we scope it after the free audit instead of guessing. We will tell you the cost before you commit. For SEO we recommend six months because it takes time to compound, and we report every month so you can see what is happening.

Can you guarantee more covers, bookings or a top spot on the map?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. Google says no one can pay for a better local ranking, and maps, apps and AI assistants change. Your results also depend on your location, your competition, your food or rooms and your reviews. What we commit to is the work: a documented plan, a growth manager and project manager, monthly reporting and honest advice about what is and is not working.

Should we leave the delivery apps or booking sites?

Not necessarily. We help you compare each app, agency and direct channel by what it costs per order or room night, so the decision rests on your own numbers. Most independents keep some platforms while they build a direct path that regulars prefer.

Can you handle the fee, liquor and accessibility rules for us?

We read the rules that apply to your marketing and flag risks before anything is published, but we are not your lawyer. Your attorney, your state liquor authority and your attorney general’s guidance have the final word on service charges, resort fees, drink promotions and accessibility.

What do you need from us to start?

Your website address, access to your Google Business Profile and analytics if you have them, and a short call about your busiest and quietest times. If you can share how many orders or room nights come from each app or agency, even better. The audit itself is free.
